We Are Training AI… But AI Is Also Training Us

Most people think about AI in one direction.

Ad Break!

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a newsletter.

Yeah. That Arnold Schwarzenegger.

So do Codie Sanchez, Scott Galloway, Colin & Samir, Shaan Puri, and Jay Shetty. And none of them are doing it for fun. They're doing it because a list you own compounds in ways that social media never will.

We train it.

  • We give it data

  • We correct its responses

  • We improve its outputs

And over time, it becomes smarter.

That’s true.

But it’s only half the story.

Because while we are training AI…

AI is also training us.

Not intentionally.
Not directly.
But continuously.

Through how we use it, rely on it, and interact with it every day.

The Two-Way Relationship

AI is not just a tool.

It’s part of a feedback loop.

Here’s how it works:

  • Humans train AI through data and interaction

  • AI responds with outputs and suggestions

  • Humans adapt based on those outputs

  • This changes how we think, work, and decide

And the cycle repeats.

Over time, both sides evolve.

How We Train AI

Let’s start with the obvious part.

AI learns from:

  • Human input

  • Feedback

  • Behavior patterns

  • Usage data

Every time you:

  • Ask a question

  • Refine a prompt

  • Accept or reject an answer

You are contributing to how AI improves.

Even indirectly.

Your behavior becomes part of the system.

How AI Is Training Us

This is the less obvious—but more important—part.

AI is changing how we:

  • Think

  • Learn

  • Make decisions

  • Solve problems

And it’s happening quietly.

1. It Changes How We Ask Questions

Before AI, finding answers required effort.

Now, answers are instant.

So we focus more on:

  • Asking better questions

  • Framing problems clearly

This is a positive shift.

But it also means:

We rely more on external tools for thinking.

2. It Shapes How We Process Information

AI gives structured, summarized responses.

Over time, we get used to:

  • Shorter explanations

  • Faster insights

  • Simplified information

This improves efficiency.

But it may reduce:

  • Deep reading

  • Slow thinking

  • Independent analysis

3. It Influences Decision-Making

AI often provides:

  • Suggestions

  • Options

  • Recommendations

This can improve decisions.

But it can also lead to:

  • Over-reliance

  • Less personal judgment

  • Reduced critical thinking

4. It Affects Creativity

AI can generate ideas instantly.

This helps:

  • Overcome creative blocks

  • Explore new directions

But it also risks:

  • Reducing originality

  • Creating similar outputs

If not used carefully.

A Simple Comparison

When Humans Train AI

When AI Trains Humans

Providing data

Shaping thinking patterns

Giving feedback

Influencing decisions

Improving accuracy

Changing habits

Expanding capability

Adjusting behavior

This is not a one-way system.

It’s a loop.

The Invisible Impact

The most important changes are not visible.

They happen slowly.

Over time, AI can influence:

  • How fast you expect answers

  • How much effort you put into thinking

  • How you approach problem-solving

These changes feel normal.

Because they happen gradually.

The Risk of Passive Use

If you use AI passively, it trains you in subtle ways.

  • Accepting answers without questioning

  • Relying on AI for every step

  • Reducing independent thinking

This creates dependency.

And dependency reduces capability.

The Opportunity of Active Use

But there’s another side.

If you use AI actively, it can make you better.

  • You think more clearly

  • You explore more ideas

  • You learn faster

The difference is simple:

Passive use weakens thinking.
Active use strengthens it.

The New Skill: Awareness

The key to this relationship is awareness.

You need to recognize:

  • How AI is influencing you

  • How your habits are changing

  • Where you rely too much

Because once you’re aware, you can choose.

How to Use AI Without Losing Control

You don’t need to avoid AI.

You need to use it intentionally.

1. Stay Involved in Thinking

Don’t just accept answers.

  • Question them

  • Improve them

  • Think alongside them

2. Use AI as a Partner, Not a Replacement

Let AI assist you.

But keep your role active.

3. Balance Speed With Depth

Fast answers are useful.

But sometimes, slow thinking is necessary.

4. Reflect on Your Usage

Ask yourself:

  • Am I thinking more—or less?

  • Am I learning—or just consuming?

The Bigger Picture

AI is one of the most powerful tools ever created.

But like all powerful tools, it changes the user.

The more you use it, the more it shapes:

  • Your habits

  • Your thinking

  • Your decisions

This is not something to fear.

But it is something to understand.

Final Thoughts

We often focus on how AI is improving.

But we rarely ask:

How is AI changing us?

Because the future is not just about smarter machines.

It’s about how humans evolve alongside them.

The real advantage will not come from simply using AI.

It will come from using it without losing your ability to think independently.

Because in the end:

You are not just training AI.
AI is training you too.

P.S.

P.S. AI can improve your thinking—but only if you stay in control of it.
Are you using AI consciously, or letting it shape you without noticing?
